What is Hanamaru?
Hanamaru is a Japanese learning app for iPhone and Android, in development. It takes you from your first hiragana to N2-level Japanese, with real conversations for everyday situations in Japan (paying at a konbini, ordering at a restaurant, shopping for clothes, checking in at a hotel), JLPT-style practice and an explanation for every answer.
Is Hanamaru official JLPT material?
No. Hanamaru offers original JLPT-style practice; it is not an official JLPT product. Not affiliated with the Japan Foundation or Japan Educational Exchanges and Services. Read the full JLPT disclaimer.
When will the app be available?
We haven’t announced a launch date yet. Join the waitlist and we will email you when the beta opens and when the app launches.
How much will it cost?
The download and the kana course will be free. The rest will be an in-app subscription with a 7-day free trial; the price will be announced at launch. Purchases go only through the App Store and Google Play. There are no ads, and we take no payments or pre-orders on this website.
I didn’t get the confirmation email.
Check your spam or promotions folder. The confirmation link works for 7 days. If it has expired or never arrived, sign up again with the same address and we will send a new one (at most one every 10 minutes).
How do I leave the waitlist?
Use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of our emails. It works with one click, without logging in. You can also write to [email protected].
How do I delete my waitlist data?
Write to [email protected] from the address you signed up with and ask us to delete it. We delete it within one month, and it disappears from our backups within 30 days after that. (Unsubscribing also deletes your address, within 24 hours; see the privacy policy.)
Do you store my sample test answers?
No. Your answers stay in your browser. We do not run website analytics, so nothing about your test is counted. Details are in the privacy policy.
